Friend Makin’ Monday

Kelli from Outside My Kitchen Window is hosting Friend Makin’ Monday this week!  And she wants to know why our closest friends are and why.  If you want to join the fun and form friendships with some lovely people just click here for the details.

Here’s this week’s topic:

Tell us about your BFF – Where did you meet? Was it BFF at first sight? How long have you been friends?  And what makes this person so special to you?

It’s interesting that this topic came up this week because I’ve been thinking about how lucky I am to be making friends in New York after living here for over a year and a half.  It takes time to become best friends, but I’m getting to know girls like Christine and Charlene that I plan to know as long as they want to know me. 🙂

I have a few close friends, and though they live far away they’ll always be an important part of my life.  Jenny and I were friends growing up, and though we have taken different paths I think we’ll always be linked by the past. She’s the one who has been most constant in my life since my adolescence.  And she’s the one who will have to tell embarrassing stories about me about my wedding (someday.)

My friend, Pablo, is a meat and potatoes guy who lives in Oklahoma.  I’ve been friends with him throughout my adult life.  He has watched me have relationships, end relationships and move across the country to fulfill my dreams.  We are as different as night and day, but I know he’ll always be there.  We are over a thousand miles apart, but if I showed up on his doorstep tonight, he would welcome me with open arms. 🙂

And since joining Weight Watchers a few months ago, I’ve become friends with wonderful people.  People who understand my struggles as well as my accomplishments.  They treat me life family, and I’m so lucky to have met them.

Nick is definitely my best friend.  He loves me, supports me and does his best to make me genuinely happy.  He is even-keeled, brilliant and sincere.  And I cannot imagine my life without him.  So while other people might have an answers that are more finite, I feel infinitely blessed to have so much to say on this topic. 🙂

Moving to a new city can be frightening. It's great you are making good friends in the city while still staying connected to old friends. It reminds me of the girl scout song about friends. To bad you can't hear me singing thru the internet! lol!

Friends to tell embarrassing stories, I've got a couple of friends like that. Always good to have, especially since odds are you'll have stories about them too.
