There’s So Much More

I read a lot of blogs, and I talk to a lot of people…yah, it’s true. 😉 And I’ve heard a lot of talk about forgetting the scale, and I respect those who choose do it. But I’ve got some serious weight to lose so I can’t/won’t do that because the scale is the easiest way to gauge my progress from week to week.

But does the scale say it all? Absolutely not! Another way I track my progress is through measurements. I’ve been weighed and measured every month since I began working with a trainer on April 22 of last year (twenty days after I began changing my life.)


And after my latest measurements Friday, I looked back at the log at the gym and liked what I saw. I’ve lost 48.5 inches around my body (arms, chest, hips, abdomen, waist, and thighs) to date. Watching these measurements change a little every month is nice, but when it’s all added up it’s just fantastic. I only wish I had been measuring my calves from the beginning because those have gotten smaller too. I can see a noticeable difference in my ankles, neck and wrists and feet and hands too though I’ve never been measured in those areas.

If you’re goal is to lose weight then I suggest that you have someone measure you each month too. It’s an easy way to track your progress, and it comes in handy during those weeks when the scale isn’t moving as much as you’d like.

Do you measure your inches? How do you gauge your weight-loss when you’re not on the scale?

    Hi Kenz!

    I am one of those people who said I did not want scales – I would not even let the Dr. weigh me, without tears! But, I now have scales – you are right, it is the only way to how you are doing from day to day – I don't obsess over them (I used to), I just weight myself each morning, usually it's a pleasant surprise, but if it's not, I try harder that day. I do need to start taking measurements, I'm not quite to that point yet, but is is a great way to determine if you have lost!

    So far 10.4 pounds – only 69.6 to go!! Thanks for keeping me inspired.

    That is absolutely amazing! I love that you are tracking your progress in so many ways!

    Besides the scale I track mine by my clothes. I tend to carry my weight more in my hips and thighs, so usually notice a difference in those areas first.

    I have to get back on track though. This week has about done me in. I even forgot to go weigh in yesterday! Oh well, there is always th
    is week!

    I regret not having taken measurements, I never knew at the beginning I would be so successful. All I have is old clothes to gauge. I weigh myself every morning, I will never forget about the scale, it keeps me grounded.

    Keri, I know what you mean. I've been measured every month since a month after I started..and it is cool to see..

    The scale is important, but it's certainly not the only thing of importance…:) Wow…I'm proud of myself for knowing that now…
