A Few Different Things

I hope everyone is enjoying this day so far! It’s almost time for a workout, but I thought I’d share some of the random thoughts that are floating around in my head today.

One of the hippest bloggers I know, ByHilary, posted the contents of her handbag a few days ago, and she asked that we do the same. It’s almost her birthday so she should have what she wants, but no one has to twist my arm to talk about my bag or what’s in it. So here we go…

The bag itself didn’t photograph very well.. It’s a Lacoste bag, and it’s a perfect bag for fall because it’s made of corduroy. πŸ™‚ I’ve had it for years, but I love this bag.

Now here’s a list of the contents:

  • Small coach wallet
  • Green Extra which is the best gum ever! I started chewing it after seeing Michael English in concert at the Hutchins Memorial Auditorium in Ponca City, OK in 1993. I found a ticket stub to that concert the night before I left Oklahoma, and it brought a big smile to my face. I love Michael English as much today as I did when I was 13 years old.
  • Nook – I love my Barnes & Noble e-reader, but I’m having problems with it today so I’m going to B&N..I hope they can fix it for me!
  • Travel perfume – Daisy by Marc Jacobs
  • Lip gloss – NARS “Orgasm”
  • Lipstick – Bobbi Brown “Twilight”
  • More lip gloss – Smashbox “Sun-kissed”
  • Lotion – “Twilight Woods” from Bath & Bodyworks
  • Coach glasses
  • iPod and earbuds – I don’t go anywhere without my iPod and at least one pair of earbuds.
  • Weight Watchers charms – I received the key chain when I lost 10% of my weight, and each of the little charms represent 25, 50, 75, 100 pounds lost and the 5K represents the 5k I completed with friends from my group. πŸ™‚ I love these little charms because each of them remind me of something good I did for myself.

I have to say that I keep my food journal in my bag too though I forgot to take it out of the inside pocket. And I also carry my iPhone, of course, but I needed it to take the picture.

And now I’m going to change gears and ask you to share your honest opinion with me. Last week I had a meeting with a magazine that has expressed interest in buying my little blog. If I accepted the offer, I would continue writing it, but it wouldn’t belong to me as it does now. And I’m not sure how I’d handle that because it has been such an important part of my weight-loss journey. Would you still read my blog even if you had to go to a different web address to do it? It would be free to sign-up, but you’d have to in order to leave a comment. What do you think?

And one last random thing…I have talked about Invisaligns before, and last night I was so glad I had them because I was in the mood to have the munchies. I have 34 WW points per day, and while I had 4 four remaining at the time, I didn’t want to eat because I truly wasn’t hungry again yet. So I put my braces back in with teeth whitener, and almost instantly, my munchy mood passed.

They’re clear, but can you see them?

What do you do to fight off cravings? Do you chew gum? Whiten your teeth? Share with us, and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!

Wow Kenz! A magazine? That is so cool πŸ™‚

I would follow you at a different website.

Thanks for showing us your purse contents…always interesting to see what other people schlep around with them!

HEy girl! That's interesting…in a cool way! I've never heard of someone buying a blog like that. Of course I would follow you to a different website! I'm sure we all would. Love ya!

I would definitely follow you on a different site. That's such an exciting offer!

On the cravings, it just depends. My cravings are almost always for sweets. I never crave salty or really any other kind of food. I've learned with myself that it's more effective for me to have a little something(and I do mean little) instead of trying to substitute something more healthy. I just eat the healthy and still want the sweet. My fall back is: Hershey's kisses. 22 calories a piece and most of the time 1 will do the trick and I don't feel deprived.

Gum is my best friend for fighting off the munchies…and I guzzle water b/c I've always heard that a lot of times when you feel "hungry" you actually just need to hydrate! πŸ™‚

How exciting that a magazine wants to buy your blog! That's awesome! I would do it in a heart beat. I'll follow you wherever you write, I love reading your blog.

To stave off the munchies I chew gum or brush my teeth.

Kenz, I would follow your blog to another site. The thing that I would worry about if it were me is who will be editing the content. You are now free to say anything and be totally honest. Don't let anyone edit YOU out of the blog. Just saying!! Love you,Sandy in Belton Missouri

Hey! Hopefully, the third time is the charm and my post will go through!

I would follow you to another site, but my question echoes Sandy's. If the magazine owns the blog, would they have the say on what topics you cover and how they are discussed? I would hate to lose your unique voice.

My favorite gum is cinnamon Trident. However, I bought some Extra Dessert Delights in Key Lime Pie. It does taste like the pie! I got it in a checkout line at Walmart. If you see, you should try it!

I have a mouth guard that is a lot like the Invisaligns. I wear it to keep me from clenching my jaw when my TMJ is acting up. You have reminded me that I need to take it by the dentist's office to have him check the fit.

Re: the blog. Certainly I would read your blog at another site. The suggestions made in previous comments are good ones, and I assume those details either have or will be covered before papers are signed.

It's just good sense to know all of the details regarding content control and editing. πŸ™‚ And you have very good sense. And I would assume that you like getting those kinds of details in writing, considering your profession.

As far s the blog no longer being your "own"–that, dearheart, is the sticking point for many writers. Myself included.

That's why some writers self-publish. That is usually a foolish choice, by the way–and a different issue–but it's the same root: feeling like you're losing control and, worse, giving over something that is yours to a stranger.

So, do what you would without me saying it–carefully check the fine print and if it looks like you'll have fairly free reign with what you post, go for it. πŸ˜€ Who knows where it will lead or what perks will come your way as a result.

    Wahoo, Kenz!

I'd be willing to read your blog at another addy if I knew it was really you uncensored….to be honest though, if they're going to edit out what they want to, and choose your topics, it wouldn't be near as interesting. πŸ™‚

BTW – I meant to ask, which teeth whitening product do you use? I've had good luck with Crest, but last time I used something else. I've been thinking of doing it again, and I was going to try the Crest 3D.

I'd follow you to another site for sure. I think only YOU can know if this move is the best for you. Think about how this blog has helped you in your journey. Then, knowing what the "terms" of the move would be, ask yourself if the blog will continue to bring you the same benefits. If the answer is yes, well, why not! Lawyer-Valerie says, make sure you get a lawyer to review the terms of the buyout with you if you go that route.

I TOTALLY do the same thing to battle cravings! I brush my teeth and put my mouth-guard (to keep me from grinding my teeth at night) in while I watch TV at night. That is a clear sign to my MIND that I will not be eating anything more that evening.

I was sad selfishly I guess, when you felt you may need to stop blogging altogether. Temporarily or not; it wasn't known. So to hear that you might be blogging elsewhere feels like at least you would still be sharing.

I do wonder about the commenter sign up details and all. Often I don't wish to sign up for yet another thing, and would not be overly thrilled to have to receive their adverts so that I could stick with ya. (and I do want to stick with ya!!) Wondering 'aloud' – would the site be easy to navigate? I was wondering all the things the other commenters wrote, too about your guidelines. Obviously the mag likes how you are writing now, but how monitored would it be, would you feel as free and honest as you already are, would you feel uncomfy about some of 'our talks' if you felt like the audience swiftly quadrupled? (which could happen here, too of course.)Would there eventually be fees involved, would you be required to mention product brand names, would you feel pressure? Would possible deadlines affect the fun & theraputic aspect of blogging, etc.! Would it still totally be Kenz talking? πŸ™‚

I can feel confident in your decision, bc I know you are a thinker, and probably now more than ever do not rush into things, and study all aspects and angles.

As always, I wish you well in the decision making process! [and you did so kindly ask, but your followers support you, love you, and want what is best for you, so it seems doubtful "shrinking Kenz" would lose too many of us.]

ps – I can't see your Invisaligns, and your smile is lovely.

1.thank you so much for posting ofyour purse!
2.regarding the blog. I'd read it but I probably would not sin up because so many companies sell emails and I'm so tired of junk mail I literally get hndreds a day. I would also worry about content editing because I've had it done to me with posts I write for other companies.it might be a great opportunity for you.
    3. Cravings Gah I don't know. I can't have fake sugar and so little gum is real sugar so I tend to kinda give into them

I would definitely follow you to another site, if it's a good move for you. Ultimately that will be the test of readership. If you're happy with it, your blog will reflect that peace too.

Random answers to your random thoughts (you sound like my blog!) . . . Love Michael English too! I heard something new of his recently. Your picture reminded me to go track it down to buy it. Kudos for putting on the invisalign and whitener to push back the hunger. I find any time I put something minty in my mouth, the craving for what I wanted gets better.

Of course, I forget that point when it's after dinner. I'm not sure why I don't think to chew gum, or have a mint, or brush my teeth right when that craving hits. Good tip. I'll try that!
