Becoming Kenlie

For years I’ve gone by Kenlie (which is a long, mostly irrelevant story.)  And since starting my blog, I’ve always been known as Kenlie or ShrinkingKenz.  My legal name is different now (and I don’t like it very much.)  And for a long time, especially after everything that has happened in the last month or so, I’ve been thinking that I should make Kenlie official, and I just want my readers to know.  If you read my blog, I think of you as a friend (and will even if we never meet!)

Many people blog anonymously.  I used to, but I can’t be bothered with that anymore.  I love to post photos and share trivial details.  It’s who I am.  I have always tried to keep my personal details private online, but the fact is that I’ve shared my innermost thoughts with those of you who offer unwavering support and encouragement so why not share this too?

If you read my blog regularly, you probably know me better than some people in my everyday life.  You certainly know the stuff that matters.  And at this point, I can say that blogging has been the biggest tool in my journey to self-acceptance and self-appreciation.  I thought my private details needed to be private  to keep my life properly compartmentalized or to keep some level of anonymity, but I can’t think of a good reason to keep it to myself anymore (especially after meeting so many fellow blogger friends at Fitbloggin earlier this year!)

My friends and family call me Kenlie (apart from Mom, Aunt Janice and Uncle Jimmy who never will.)  My online friends do as well so I’m going to make it official later this summer by going before a judge for about 10 minutes.   I’ve changed so much in the last year, and I long for the day that my outside finally reflects the inside.  I long to be completely free (transparent) and I’m proud of myself for taking big steps in that direction.

What about you?  Do you like your name?  Have you ever considered changing it?  Do you feel like who you are on the inside is reflected on the outside?  What would you change about yourself if you could?

I’ll be back later this evening to announce the winner of the PopChips giveaway!  Until then, have a wonderful weekend!
