The Truth About Love

It’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m single.  I could tell you that I hate the holiday…that it’s a corporate holiday that was created to increase revenue, blah, blah, blah…but the truth is, I love Valentine’s Day.  I love love….giving it and receiving it.  And though I don’t have a date this year (for the second consecutive year) I do have love.  I am loved.

I’m loved by my mother who would do anything in the world to make sure that her girls are safe and happy.  I’m loved by my dad who is proud of me for being as smart as he is. Right Dad? 😉  I’m loved by my sister and her family…Seriously, Hannah has instinctively known that she was supposed to love me since she was born.  I’m loved by Janice and Barbara and many other relatives.  I’m loved by my friends.  And I love all of them just as much.

Eddie Vedder from my favorite band, Pearl Jam sings these lyrics “…Oh, I’m a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love… Some folks just have one, and others they’ve got none…”  And though I’m not a man, the rest fits.  I may not be in love with a guy who’s in love back, but I do give and receive love everyday.

I love myself more now than ever too.  I’m resilient and determined and bright.  I’m also compassionate and sincere and working harder now than ever to see the beauty in myself instead of only seeing the flaws.

So even though my only date today will be with the elliptical machine, I am loved, and I deserve to be loved.  I’m open to it, but I’m not looking for it.  Remember Future Mr. Kenz….I want you to find me!  😉

Happy Valentine’s Day lovies……xxoo

Just wanted to comment about Hannah. That was not instinct baby girl. She is mirroring back the love she feels from you! Babies and children are extremely perceptive, they know when someone loves them and when they don’t. BTW I’d love to see more pictures of you and Hannah, she’ adorable.

I’m with JoAnn, babies know when they see love. I am one of those who does not care much for today. I rather have a person who works on us 365, a card or flowers don’t make a difference to me. It used to be important at one point until I realize all those “guys” giving me presents when they had to, where not that great the rest of the year. The Hubs loves this holiday but he knows I rather make dinner for us than do typical “Valentine’s Day” stuff.

I know the Mr. will find you, and then your entire year will be Valentines!

Valentine’s Day has always been a favorite holiday of mine from the time I was little and my mom made us heart-shaped poached eggs for breakfast. Whether I was single (most often I have been) or romantically tangled, Valentine’s Day is a sweet celebration of love.

I LOVE this Kenlie!!! I like Valentine’s day too. I’m married now, but I’ve had many a single V-Day, and loved ’em anyway. For the same reason as you, there are so many different types of love, and all are special and worth celebrating. Every day, not just on Feb 14th. Wishing you a happy Valentine’s day. Love your blog, you inspire me all the time.

    Happy Valentine’s Day, Kenlie!

Let’s hope next year we’ll both be celebrating a Valentine’s Day with someone special who loves us for us!

Obviously they’ll have to appreciate our love of Christmas all year round! 😀

Happy Valentines Day Kenlie! I have Mr. I Hate V-Day for a bf, but he actually sounded disappointed when I said we’d have a candlelit dinner of In n Out tonight. So, he’s getting a nice dinner of salmon, asparagus, rice, and wine, with candles, and a tiny little bouquet of red carnations on the table. hehe

You are so right about how lucky you are to have love in your life, and coming form so many sources! Keep that attitude and Mr. Kenlie will find you in time!

    hey Kenlie,

Thank you so much for the gifts!!! I got them this afternoon! I love the journal and the DVD looks like loads of fun! I really need to get better at journaling and writing down everything I am thinking, feeling, eating, etc… You will help me do this with this awesome journal! Thank you again! It meant a lot to me to get that in the mail today!
    Happy Valentine’s Day!

I completely understand Kenlie. I’m single (always been single and blame my weight – naturally!), and generally feel like life’s unfair for that reason (singleness, not being overweight…. although….). Anyway, I bought myself a new car on the weekend and picked it up on Valentine’s Day. And… it’s even red (ish)!
