Bittersweet: Calorie Counting Hell

Does anyone remember the party that I went to at this time last year?  I must have mentioned it.  But in case you didn’t hear about it, here some pictures from the event.

I forgot to take pictures of the food, opting only to take pictures of the dessert,  but you get the idea.  The cupcakes were equally distributed on both sides of the tower between the brownies and the tables of cookies, pound cake, ice cream and other sweets.

It's as if they looked into my dreams and constructed them for me.

There was a fruit table too, and it was my saving grace even though I enjoy fresh fruit so much more when an endless supply of cupcakes is not a realistic option.

I like fruit, but it wasn't easy to choose last year while the cupcakes were staring me down.

And it’s that time of year again.  The party is tomorrow, and the menu is the same as last year – ribs, burgers, hot dogs, beans, Cajun specialties and a list of other things including but not limited to ice cream and movie popcorn.  There will be live music and games, and the food will be served fresh all day.  I’ll be there with my family from 10am until 4pm, and I’m determined to enjoy the day without letting the food (not even the cupcakes) control me.

    Seriously – that is the definition of torture. Good luck. Imagine how fun and rewarding it would be to blog that you resisted and chose your health over a momentary calorie. YOu can do it.

    Hi Kenlie! Super love the title of this post!! I also adore the cupcake photo, that looks so good. But I’ve been to lots of those kind of parties, cakes and cupcakes are never as good as they look. I suggest to be an Amazon woman and be strong and resist them entirely. One bite is just evil to the senses.

    Skip the fruit too, if you feel like it. Just because you don’t eat a cupcake doesn’t mean you are forced to eat a banana or carrot sticks. I often feel tortured by the carrot sticks at picnics, which is silly 😀

    Best of luck, but you’ve got it nailed! If you must browse, stick to the healthy options. No one “needs” 10,000 cupcakes, right? lol

    Wow, that is a LOT of cupcakes! Well, I don’t eat a cupcake without a fork, and I didn’t see any forks in the photo. 🙂 Plus they will mess up your lovely lipstick..just not worth it all around. And like another poster said, won’t it be great to tell all of us about your steely resolve tomorrow? Oh yes. Pride, baby. I know you will end the day proud of yourself. Chrissy

    I’ve been counting calories on SparkPeople.com since last August, and I know how difficult it is to be confronted with a situation like this. I’ve found that the best thing for me to do is to immediately track what I’m wanting to eat, and see how it fits in with my whole day’s plan. Most times, the numbers turn me off, and kill the desire to eat whatever it is.

    Whatever you decide to do, remember that the taste of success is far better than the taste of that cupcake. 😉 Good luck!
