Three Years Ago Today (And Friend Makin’ Mondays: When I Was A Kid…)

It’s Monday again, and today is a special day for me because I’m celebrating 3 years of healthy living and blogging.  When I think about how far I have to go, it’s easy to get frustrated because I’ve wasted so much time.  I know that I have a lot of work left to do, but I’m also so pleased that I’ve managed to maintain the loss of 100 pounds since the day that I began trying to change the way I live.

The best part is that I respect who I am now.

I can do so many things that I couldn’t do three years ago!   I can do ten miles on the elliptical, and I can bike much further than that.  I can swim over a mile, and my clothes are ten sizes smaller than they were.  I also live a soda-free life which seemed unimaginable even several months into my journey, and now I wouldn’t have it any other way.    My feet no longer swell so much that I have to buy shoes a size bigger, and I can button my coat when it’s cold outside.  I can run up several flights of stairs, and I can comfortably walk around a mountain zoo in high altitude with my niece which we’ll do again in a few weeks.

I could have reached my goal by now if I had controlled my food habits as well as I control my exercise habits, but I can still look in the mirror and be proud of my accomplishments.  And I’m thankful for my family and readers who have offered unwavering support on my journey so far.  I’ve worked through a lot since day one, and I’m continually trying to do that now too.

When I wrote my first blog post on April 2, 2009 I was scared and hopeful, and I could not imagine what it would feel like to lose 100 pounds.  Now three years later I’m scared and hopeful, and I can’t imagine what it must feel like to lose 200 pounds.  But I didn’t give up during the first three years, and I won’t be giving up now either.  In fact, I celebrated the day by working out at midnight!  And that’s something that never would have happened 3 years ago today…

Yesterday I posted on twitter that I was having trouble thinking of a topic for FMM, and I asked for ideas.  And because I have such awesome twitter friends, ideas came to me almost immediately.  Both @LutherLiz who blogs here and @DebsLosingIt who blogs here suggested questions about childhood, and from there it was easy!  I hope you’ll take time to check out their blogs today and say hi!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

When I was a kid…

  1. My parents told me…that they loved me all then time.
  2. I wanted to grow up to be a…professional singer like Amy Grant.
  3. I refused to eat…spinach (which is ridiculous because I LOVE it now.)  My sister couldn’t stand it either so when we ate it, we got to play Popeye with Dad and knowck him out of his chair.  That was pretty awesome.
  4. My favorite thing to do outside was…ride my bike.  Isn’t it funny how some things never change?
  5. I broke my…arm riding my bike.  Someone drove by in a truck and honked the horn at me (even though I was on the sidewalk) causing my to jump and land with a peddle on my arm.
  6. I liked to wear…anything other than dresses which seems silly now since it’s my preference now.  I’m wearing a sundress today!  (Thank you warm weather.)
  7. My parents always…prayed with me at night before bed.
  8. I thought that Santa was…fake.  I really regret never believing in him.  He’s so awesome.
  9. My favorite cartoon was...Garfield!
  10. I was the…oldest.
  11. I got in trouble when…my parents found my hidden New Kids on the Block memorabilia (including the Jordan Knight picture that I cut out of Bop magazine and all of their cassette tapes!)
  12. My bedroom was…a hotbed for NKOTB memorabilia.  Okay, wait, I’ll move on.  My parents made me clean my room so I threw things into my closet and shut the door.  I’m happy to say that my room and closet are quite tidy these days!
  13. My favorite food was…I don’t really remember liking or disliking food (with the exception of spinach) when I was a kid.
  14. My parents always made me…sing in church.  Most of the time I wanted to, but I usually had to regardless.
  15. My first crush was…on a boy named Eric who was in the 7th grade while I was in 1st grade.  He got so annoyed because I could spell mathematics and he couldn’t that he turned it around and became an A student.  (You’re welcome, Eric.)
  16. My favorite toy was…my Cabbage Patch Doll, Jimmy Swaggart.  Uh, yeah…I really don’t have an excuse for that one.  Don’t judge me.
  17. I thought school was…a place to go to socialize with friends, sing songs and eat lunch.  I still think this.
  18. My biggest fear was…being bombed when the war started in the Persian Gulf.  I think that’s when I began caring about current events.  I was ten years old.
  19. My favorite story was…definitely Timmy the Squirrel.  In addition to being an incredible singer, my mom is also a professional puppeteer, and she can tell a story better than anyone I know.
  20. My favorite memories…are probably from our days in the Texas hill country.  We floated on the river, BBQ-ed and enjoyed the sunshine.  Those were fun times.

Now it’s your turn!  Don’t forget to answer the questions on your blog and come back to link up in the comments!  Happy Monday!

Congrats on 3 years my friend. Great b & a photos.

Was the Cabbage Patch *named* “Jimmy Swaggart”? I’m trying to figure out what that sentence means.

    Happy Monday.

Well, I named it Jimmy Swaggart. There were “official” adoption papers to send off…so funny.
