Exercise Friends Lifestyle Reflection weight loss

Married Life, Weight Watchers, Friends and Stuff

It’s been a beautiful week in New Orleans, and I’m hope that this weather will continue through August. This is typically the worst hottest month of the year, but the first day was splendid. Window washers cleaned my windows last week too, so we’re enjoying the view from the sofa with the blinds open a lot right now.

Michael and I have been adjusting to married life, and the last few weeks have been pretty great. We feel at home in our new church, and we’re finding our way into new living patterns – spending time together and giving each other space.

I haven’t found a good groove with Weight Watchers yet, but I’m not giving up. My weight has not changed much at all since I got married. In some ways that feels like a win, but it’s disappointing too because I know I can do better. My weight just hasn’t been the focus, so I’m not going to beat myself up for something that I’m not making a priority.

My clothing size is still changing though. A few months ago I was wearing 24’s in everything, and right now I’m much more comfortable wearing 20’s in most things. GwynnieBee has come in quite handy for me in that way because it allows me to wear different dresses every week.

My weigh-in day in Thursday, and I’m going to face the scale again even though I haven’t done my best. I do think I’m in a better place than I would be in without Weight Watchers because I’m much more mindful of my food choices now.

I eat small portions of food, but if I’m eating small portions of calorie-laden, high carb foods I’m not going to see the success I’d see if I ate lean meats and proteins. Yesterday I brought a healthy lunch to work, and a few days ago while at a work meeting I chose a protein bar and coffee over the decadent sweets that I wanted to eat.

They looked so pretty and delicious, but my Quest Hero bar did help me stay on track. (These little things are notable because they’re wins for me.) It’s worth noting that I left that day with $30 of free chocolates, and I quickly gave them away at the Pandora store when I picked up my freshly cleaned bracelet. (That was a pretty notable NSV for me too because I love those chocolates.)

I also started lifting weights a few weeks ago too, and this week I spent a few days doing cardio after work. I made a schedule with friends to train for the Saints 5k that I’m doing again this year, and it’s so much more fun to exercise with friends! I love how easily I fit on the arc trainer now. (I didn’t when I started working there.)

Some exercise friends are not pictured in this sweaty selfie.

I was impressed with my walking pace this week too because I didn’t find it hard to walk as fast as everyone else. It’s not a race or a competition, but I remember being the slowest person in the group. Now I can keep up, and that feels like measurable progress to me!

Life is incredible right now. It’s also busy, so I’m forcing myself to enjoy some quiet time too. There’s a lot happening that I don’t say here because some things just aren’t up for judgment anymore.

If you’re reading this I hope things are going well for you…

Until next time…

Have you checked in with your doctor to see why you’re not losing weight after surgery?

I’ve lost nearly 120 pounds since surgery less than a year ago, so nope..I haven’t asked. I’m pretty sure the calorie-laden portions, small though they were, glasses of champagne and during my wedding week, one of my bestie’s wedding weeks, my family friends’ wedding week, my honeymoon week, birthday had something to do with it…

Lifting weights must kind of be working too because my body is getting smaller…I also dropped over 5 pounds this week, so that’s something.

Anyway, I think the answer was pretty obvious. It just hasn’t been my priority…I’m happy to be down 5 pounds, not up 10 or more.

      Now it’s time to refocus…

So good! Five pounds is a win towards goal not backwards. I wAnted to share I’ve lost weight for first time in years since becoming vegan. Plant based whole foods is the way to go( for me anyways), it’s full of nutrients, satisfying and delicious. My new obessession or go go is potato “cheeze” blended boiled yukons, carrot, onion and jalepeno. Cheeze sauce heaven, guilt free. Also love banana pancakes. Blend banana, oats, vanilla, baking powder and water, cook on a nonstick griddle. Beans, homemade almond milk, veggie wraps, overnight oats, I love reinventing my favorites into plant based.
