FMM: What’s In Your Bag?

I was much more excited at this time last week because my sister and niece were about to arrive.  They left this morning with my brother-in-law who arrived over the weekend, and I’m thankful for the incredible week I had with them.  I’m just sad to see them go.

This week’s topic is one of my favorites, and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else keeps in their bag.  My handbags tend to be big, and if you check out what’s in it you’ll know why!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

What’s In Your Bag?

Snap a picture if you can, and tell us about what’s inside your bag today.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s in my bag:

– iPad.  Because I like easy access to the internet and my books

– A magazine about New Orleans lifestyle that ‘the suit’ gave me last week.

– My favorite Michele watch.

– Pink Pop Phone that Leslie gave me.  I plug it into my iPhone and/or iPad on a regular basis.  I love it!  (Anderson Cooper has a black one!)

– Daisy by Marc Jacob. I wear that perfume when I’m feeling flirty.

– Buxom lip gloss. It turns minty as you wear it, and that can be fun. hehe

– Pink highlighter. You never know when the urge to study might hit. Ha..

– Coach wallet and Coach Skinny.  I use the skinny to hold my business cards since I don’t have a proper business card holder.

– Black Burberry reading glasses

– Neutrogena hand cream.  I love this stuff.

– Green tea mints from Trader Joe’s

– Camera case. (The camera took the picture.)

– A silly present that I’ll give ‘the suit’ later today.

– Makeup

– Ray Ban aviators

I also carry a few things that aren’t pictured, such as my favorite 32 oz. Nalgene water bottle, Altoids and green tea packets.  Do you see why I need to carry such a big bag?
Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s question! Feel free to participate even if you can’t snap a picture for us, and be sure to come back and link up in the comments!  Happy Monday, Friends!

Will You Please Share Your Opinion Today?

To some it would seem that I’m obsessed with nail color, and that might be true.  I did manage to leave the first color on my nails for more than 24 hours even though I’m dying to try all of them.  Now I’m on to the next color…

French Quarter For Your Thoughts by OPI

On a different note, I’ve been an AT&T iPhone customer for years, but I’m considering a switch to Verizon.  I often drop calls and have trouble loading pages on the web. I can’t imagine life without an iPhone so my choices are limited, and I travel pretty often so I need cell phone service that’s dependable everywhere.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on your service.  Which provider do you use?  Are you satisfied with it?

That Was Quick

I flew to New York Sunday evening then returned to New Orleans Monday night, and it was a busy 24 hours!  When the rain finally stopped it was still cold and gloomy so I’m glad I brought my coat!  When I was in New York in March I tweeted about scoring a coat at Lane Bryant that was originally $200.00 for only ten dollars, but I forgot to post a photo.

It was originally $200.00, and I paid $10.00! Score!

I bought a size 22/24 even though it was slightly snug thinking that I could wear it during next season’s chilly temps, but it kept me warm yesterday.  It also kept my dress from flying up in the breeze!  🙂  I’m glad I took Mom’s advice when she said to bring my coat because I hadn’t planned on it.

When I arrived at home last night I was greeted with a package containing six bottles of nail lacquer from OPI.  Actually, they’re from a friend who works for OPI.  I knew she was sending a color that I’ve been trying to find for months, but she sent five additional colors as well.  And must understand me because every color is incredible!  I want to paint my nails with every color today, but I’ll try to stick to one.  😉

Which one should I choose first?!?

The next couple of weeks are going to be busy as I prepare for finals.  Tomorrow’s class will be devoted to preparing for the final next week.   And I have to work on an important paper for my Monday class.   I can’t believe it’s already that time of year!  It feels like my classes just started!

What’s happening in your world today?  Will you workout?  What’s for dinner?

Shopping For Shoes….? Me?

I weighed in last night showing a loss of 0.6 pounds this week, and I’m trying not to be too disappointed about it. I had hoped to lose more, but I have mapped out a plan to make this week a better one. I congratulate others for making progress so now is the perfect time to practice what I preach, right? Now on to shoes…

Yesterday I did some shopping because I desperately needed smaller clothes. It’s an awesome feeling to walk out with clothes that are 8 sizes smaller and flattering as opposed to walking out with multiple versions of whatever fits. I don’t expect the novelty of shopping for clothes to wear off for a long, long time. Who am I kidding? I’ll always love it.

But as important as it is to wear properly fitted clothes, (Yes, I do think it’s terribly important! I no longer believe in wearing baggy, frumpy outfits as an attempt to hide myself.) I think it’s also equally important to wear shoes that feel good and look good. I’ve purchased a few pairs lately that complete my outfits while adding a little flare.

These red, patent leather Ecco flats that I bought in Colorado have made me feel adorable and a little sassy since I first tried them on. And because they’re Ecco, they are super comfortable! I like to pair them with outfits in place of black which is something I do with my Tory Burch Stingray flats a lot too.

When I do want to wear black, I love wearing these slides. Cole Haan is incredible because the heels often contain a Nike air bubble. Does it get better than polished looking sandals that yield the comfort of a sneaker? I don’t think so…

And speaking of sandals, who doesn’t love flip flops?! I bought this pair of Keen flip flops because I think they’re a bit nicer than the plastic flip flops I used to wear from Old Navy in my early 20’s. And because they have an arch, they’re actually comfortable for all day wear.

Speaking of all day wear, these Merrell slides are perfect for walking when I’m not in the mood to wear sneakers. They’re pretty granola not as feminine as most things I wear, but they make me feel as though I’m gliding around on clouds so they get my seal of approval.

And some days I just want to feel adorable. These 3.5 inch espadrilles make it easy to feel instantly feminine whether I’m wearing a sun dress or a pair of cropped jeans. I bought them at Target, but they’re surprisingly comfortable. I wore them this evening, and they’re definitely easy to wear. They were totally inexpensive so even if I wear them a few times and move on, I’ll still feel as though I got my money’s worth out of them.

Do I consider myself to be materialistic? I guess so…at least a little. I just feel good when I look my best. And shoes, clothes and accessories that fit my new and changing body make the process much more exciting. I hope you treat yourself to special somethings that make you feel good. It doesn’t have to be expensive to make you feel like a million bucks! 🙂

I’ve said this so many times before, but I’m saying it again – Life does not stop until we feel perfect about ourselves so I choose to do the best with what I have now as I continue moving forward. My best includes flattering outfits, and even more importantly, an uplifting attitude and a myriad of healthy choices. What helps you feel your best?

Pretty Colors

Today is weigh-in day, and while I hope I did well I can’t be sure. I ate reasonably while on vacation, and I did not drink a single pina colada or daiquiri or martini. I ate a little more than I would have at home, but I also exercised more than I would have at home. I stepped it up so I’d be ready to step on the scale. We’ll see how that goes…

And because that’s all I have to say on the subject, I’ll tell you a little (though probably still more than you want to know) about other things that are important to me today. 😉

I received the long-awaited Bodybugg last night, but I’ve had some problems with it. It’s still not working properly which means another call to tech support is imminent. I couldn’t call again last night because tech support is only open until 7pm Eastern. What’s that about? It will be working before I go to bed tonight, or it will be shipped back. I hope it’s an easy fix because I believe it will contribute to my weight-loss success.

My cardio workout was much later than usual yesterday because I wanted to be wearing the ‘bugg. I did wear it though only to know what it will feel like when it is working properly. And after a few minutes I had forgotten it was there.

On a different note, I’m excited because I’m attending another taping of the Rachael Ray Show in a couple of weeks. She should just let me host and take a break that day, right? Eh well…I’ll be happy to sit in the audience with friends. What to wear…what to wear…Though I don’t have an outfit in mind yet, I do know that I’ll be wearing jewel tones.

And speaking of pretty colors, I spotted this nail polish at Sephora today, and I was reminded that Spring is here and Summer will be here soon! This year has flown by so far, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming days of warmth and sunshine.

This color, Ocean Potion by OPI for Sephora will definitely be found on my hands and toes later this week. Regretfully, I had a manicure only hours before purchasing this color so I’ll force myself to wait for a few days. It won’t be easy because this color is rockin’…One of my girlfriends came over tonight and left with manicured hands..;) What can I say? I love this stuff!

And while I was out, I also found a lip trio (liner, lipstick and lip gloss) by Bare Minerals. I’m wearing it now, and I’m definitely pleased with it so far. I also tried a Lorac gloss because it’s supposed to be long lasting like a lip stain, but I didn’t buy it. I think I’d rather try the lip stain by Smashbox instead.

So while I don’t have a lot to say about weight-loss until after my weigh-in, I can tell you that I feel prettier than I’ve felt in a long, long time. I feel confident and happy when I’m doing my best to look my best.

How do you feel today?

New Things

Whoever said money can’t buy happiness has clearly never shopped with me. 😉 I’m kidding (sort of.) Obviously, it takes more than stuff to make us happy, but I am very excited about receiving my Bodybugg. According to, it should arrive on time today. I can’t wait to see how many calories I’m burning vs. how many I’m eating per day.

I also bought a new Michele watch today! I’m so excited because I’ve wanted it for a while, and it serves as a reminder than I’m achieving my goals over time. 🙂 Okay, that’s secondary..I really just wanted it. 😉 My wrist feels so pretty right now. hehe

It’s fun because you can buy interchangeable bands for the watch making it match any color in any season. I have the one in the picture, but who knows what I’ll find over the summer? 🙂

Am I the only one who feels a little bit prettier when I’m wearing new accessories? Do you get excited when you buy fun new things for yourself?

I Want To Win

My friend, at ByHillary, is sharing an amazing giveaway for a super swanky flat iron, and I’m not messing around. I want to win it. I’d love to see what I could do for my hair with a quality flat iron like this one from Misikko.

If you’d like take part in the contest then head to her blog and enter. Of course, I want to win so I can’t wish you luck without being a little full of it. 😉 Just kidding. I’ll wish you luck..just wish me luck too!

Pick me, Hillary! Please pick me!

When I Reach 100 Pounds

If you know me at all, you know I love to reward myself. And as I approach my 100 pound mark, I’m thinking about what I should give to myself as a reminder than I’m really kicking butt.

Right now, I have a plan to see the dermatologist when I reach 100 pounds (not so much as a reward as just a good time to do it.) I have a lot of scaring from pimples that occurred when my body packed on a lot of weight quickly. Jeez..have I no shame?! Nope..not really..:)

So my plan at 100 pounds is to start the process of making the skin on my face as clear and flawless as possible. I’m quite happy with the skin on my legs and around most of my body, but everyone sees my face first. And I want to feel confident and happy about it even if it means laser treatments, scrubs and God knows what else.

My reason for choosing 100 pounds as a starting point is that I’d like to be finished with any process I have to go through by the time I reach my ultimate goal. I also have Invisaligns (clear braces) which will be completed before I hit my ultimate goal so I will have the full effect of the whole cocoon to butterfly thing. 😉

Now, back to rewards…I have to preface this by saying that even if I couldn’t afford to splurge for myself, I’d have reward enough already because I feel like a new and incredible person who is active, determined and happy. That being said, I also like nice things. Who am I kidding?! I LOVE nice things. 🙂

So when I reach 100 pounds I’m going to purchase one of these as a gift to myself:

  • The Elsa Peretti Star Necklace from Tiffany & Co. as a representation of 100 pounds lost and countless bravos (each one being a little reminder of the behavioral changes I’ve made, challenges I’ve overcome and healthy decisions that I made for myself to reach this milestone.)

  • A Burberry Watch (because it’s just very pretty and elegant looking.)

As you can see, I’d like a new watch, but I think that a necklace like the star would serve as a daily reminder of what I’m trying to accomplish. Note to boyfriend: If I buy myself the necklace at 100 pounds, please see the watches listed when searching for a birthday prezzie for me. 😉

And just since I’m in the mood to shop and dream, I’ll tell you about my plans for 200 pounds. When I started this weight loss journey, my boyfriend and I decided that when I hit 200 pounds lost we’ll go to Greece. It is close to his heart and a big desire for him as well as for me. So this time next year (or maybe a bit later, whatever) we will be planning our trip to Greece which will be unforgettable.

And since I’ll need to pack for my trip in style, I plan to purchase the Louis Vuitton Pégase 55 Business rolling luggage piece. Good grief, people…it’s b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! I looked at one at LV yesterday, and I promise that I’m going to do my best to wait a year to buy it though it would be soooooo fun to bring it with me to Aruba next month! (Um, for the record…that won’t be happening.)

I do think that when I reach 200 pounds lost, I’ll be more than happy to pick up this piece for myself. It’s stupidly extravagant and maybe even a little cheesy, but I want it. And I have a lot of work (losing weight) to do before I earn it.

It is important to have goals whether you’re losing 10 pounds or 250 pounds. And, for me, rewarding myself is just another reason to look forward to reaching my goals. But rewards don’t have to cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to be effective. They just need to be something out of the ordinary that will last as a reminder of how far you’ve come. And when I get to goal, I’ll reward myself with something awesome when I’ve kept it off for a year..then two…then three…

Different things work for different people. But I’m clearly a person who loves pretty things, and this makes me even more excited to reach the goals I have in place.

Do you reward yourself when you accomplish something? What serves as your reminder of what you’ve done for yourself?

Sports Bras For Plus-Sized Girls

I am in serious need of some new sports bras. If that’s too much information for you then skip this post. But it has to be said…I have no idea where to get a sports bra in my size. Are they even available?

After losing 75 pounds, I’ve had to replace my regular bras with smaller ones and love Lane Bryant’s Back Smoothing bra. But it seems that the plus-sized sports bra is impossible to find.
I work hard during workouts. I sweat. I burn calories. But I don’t do it in a sports bra which would be much more breathable and comfortable. Any ideas?
I like wearing cute workout clothes because it makes working out so much more exciting. And I know that I could raise my intensity a bit more if I had proper support. I’m just not sure how to find it!
Do you workout wearing traditional workout gear? Or do you use regular clothes during workouts? And if you’re plus-sized and wear sports bras will you please let me know when I can find one? Thanks!

Where Do You Shop?

I love clothes and accessories, but as an overweight girl I have trouble finding outfits that are fashionable and flattering.  Lane Bryant, one of my staple stores, has come a long way in the last couple of years.  They make jeans that fit me well, and the new back smoothing bras are amazing.  They really came through on it’s promises with this bra.  Now if they make them in every color I’ll be very happy to buy them.

But where my daily outfits are concerned, I’m having trouble relying on stores like Lane Bryant and Avenue.  Don’t get me wrong…I spent about $1,000 in Avenue last month, but most stylish pieces in Avenue only go up to size 24.
My favorite place to shop online is B&Lu.  I’ve been shopping on their site for about a year, and it’s definitely the best place to find fashionable clothes in my size like this dress (that I totally want now, by the way.)
Or this shirt which would be perfect, paired with a pair of jeans and suede boots, for a fall Saturday in New York.

I recently bought my first shirt off the rack at Old Navy which was awesome. And I recently purchased a sweater at Kohl’s. It was so much fun to walk into a ‘regular’ store and buy clothing. And I know that as I continue to lose weight, I’ll gain options to buy more flattering clothes. Until then, I’ll be looking for stores that cater to me, even at my current size because I REFUSE to believe that you have to be a size 4 to be stylish.

In fact, Kimberly at FabFindsUnder50 proves everyday that you don’t have to be a size zero to be stylish, cool and beautiful.  She always looks phenomenal and loves to give her readers tips on how to do it too! If you haven’t checked out her site, do it now.
Where do you shop? Are there stores that you hope to be able to walk into only to walk out with a new, fab dress at some point? If so, I’d like to hear about it.
Weight loss is hard, but sitting on the sidelines of our lives would be much harder.  So I’m determined to continue down this road of change.  If you’re struggling to do the same thing, remind yourself to “stop thinking in terms of limitations, and start thinking in terms of possibilities.”
