I Want To Cry…and Eat Food…

I’m a week into the liquids phase. I’m down 13 pounds so far, but today wasn’t easy. I went into the office and chatted with my boss, who is also a dear friend, and I left after less than an hour. I just didn’t want to be there today, so I left.

A big part of my job requires talking to people, which is my favorite thing about it. I just had trouble finding my smile this morning. Thankfully, my amazing support system extends to work, and I was able leave without issue.

When I left I met Michael at the movies to see “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” then we watched “Snowden.” I don’t think I’ve ever watched two movies in the same day at a theater, but tickets are dirt cheap on Tuesdays. It was a great way to zone out and to take a break from thinking about the lack of food and my upcoming surgery. Surprisingly, I wasn’t bothered by the smell of popcorn, but as we were leaving the theater I was hungry even though I brought protein shakes with me.

When I came home Michael joined me here too, and we had a great evening. I’m so thankful for that man. He’s the kind of man I’ve always dreamed of spending my life with, and it’s even more amazing than I hoped it would be. He’s my strong arm, and he knows what I need before I say it.

Tonight I needed to curl up and relax, and he knew it. I’m much sleepier right now than I usually am, and I don’t know if there’s anything I can do about it. I’m just going to rest as much as possible and remind myself that I’m halfway through this first phase.

When Michael left I cried for a few minutes. I can’t explain exactly why, but the tears have come and gone a few times today. It probably doesn’t help that it’s almost that time in a girl’s life. (Ladies, you know what I mean.)

Right now I’m hungry, but I’m going to go to sleep feeling victorious once again. I’m just hoping that tomorrow will be better than today.

How Often Do You Go to the Movies?

I don’t see many movies in the theater, and I don’t watch many at home either. Sure, I went through a pretty long love affair with the Hallmark Channel, but that seems over for now (at least until Christmas in July.)

Going to the movies is fun, and it’s a great way to avoid the scorching temps that we experience for months on end in New Orleans. I just rarely think to myself, “a movie sounds like a fun idea,) but last week I decided to see a movie on Friday because my friends at Starbucks made it sound so appealing.

They’re retired, and they’re early birds! (I aspire to be like them,)  and as we drank coffee my friend, Cathy, mentioned movies and everyone agreed that morning movies are great because they’re so inexpensive. As I questioned why anyone would go to an early morning movie I began to wonder why I don’t do it. I typically don’t go into the office on Fridays, so it’s a great day to treat myself to a $5 flick. Who knew that morning movies were so much cheaper?! (Okay, my friends at Starbucks knew, and I’m glad!)

I don’t know how many movies I’ll see over the next few weeks, but I plan to add that to my fun list of activities by myself or with friends.

How often do you go to the movies? What does a standard movie showing cost in your neck of the woods?

Friend Makin’ Mondays: TV, Movies and Me

Sometimes coming up with a set of questions takes forever, and sometimes (like tonight) it just flows easily.  On nights like this, I have to remind myself that most people don’t want to blog all day so I try to limit the questions to 10 most weeks.  Could you/would you want to do more than 10 some weeks?  Let me know what you think!  Now let’s get to this week’s topic!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

TV, Movies and Me

1. If you could be a recurring star on a show that is currently on TV, which show would you choose?  I’d choose Smash because I’d get to sing and dance and live in NYC again.  I would obviously want to play Derek’s love interest because he’s beyond gorgeous, has a sexy accent…and Karen doesn’t seem to be making the right choice so……

2. Name the movie that you are most embarrassed to admit that you love. I’m really not ashamed to admit that I adore cheesy, romantic movies.  I cry whenever I see the end of The Notebook, and I giggle every time I watch Legally Blonde.

3. Name one show that you’ve never seen and would love to watch.  Well, “show” leaves it open to interpretation so I’m going with “Book of Mormon” on Broadway.  I’ll try to see it over the summer, if not sooner.

4. Do you ever go to movies alone?  Sure.  Most of the time I go with friends, but I remember seeing Princess Diaries 2 alone, and I’ve watched Twilight (multiple times) alone.  I don’t see the big deal unless it’s Valentine’s Day, in which case I wouldn’t do it.

5. If you could only watch one TV show for the next year, which show would you choose and why?  Even though I’d like to say “Smash” or “White Collar” or “Suits,” my answer would have to be AC 360.  I think we all know why.  Is anyone really surprised by this?

6. If you could star in one reality show, which one would it be and why?  Um, I’d be the star of The Kenlie Show, of course!  I mean, why be on someone else’s reality show if you can have your own?  🙂

7. If someone rented a billboard for you, what would it say?  It would say, “You are worth the effort it takes to create change within yourself” or something super motivational like that. I suppose it would also say, “Tune in to The Kenlie Show” Tuesday nights at 9/8 central.  Hey, a girl can dream, right? 😉

8. Who is the most famous person with whom you have been in the same room?  Gosh, it’s a toss up between Peyton Manning and George Clooney.  For the record, I got to talk to Peyton for a second, but I didn’t get to speak to George.  I just happened to be grabbing mini cupcakes across from Cipriani when he was there for a fancy gala with lots of other fancy, famous people.

Actually, maybe Tony Bennet is more famous.  I saw him in concert for Valentine’s Day a few years ago.  He may not be as widely known as he once was, but he certainly is timeless.

9. If you were chosen to be a contestant on a TV game show, which show would you want to be on?  I’d have to say…..Wheel of Fortune.  I think I’d be more likely to win that one than any other one, but I’ve heard that it’s harder than it looks.

10. If there was a movie being made about you, which actor would you choose to play you? Hmmm, I think I’d choose Melissa McCarthy because she’s amazing.  She’d be way cooler and funnier as me than I am.  Win!

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments!  Happy Monday, lovely humans!

Friend Makin’ Mondays: Three Things

It’s Monday again, and I can’t decide if I’m happy about that or not.  Just kidding (err, mostly.)  Summer classes start today which is nice because I like school, but I have to admit that I’m not looking forward to the level of intensity since the classes will only last for five weeks.  Okay, I admit it…I’m not looking forward to the homework.

I’m also bummed because Smash is over until 2013.  That seriously sucks.  Monday nights won’t be the same until Derek, Karen and Ivy are back.  Does anyone else watch?  If so, do you think that Derek is in love with Karen?

Anyway, I suppose we should get to this week’s topic (which is not Smash, believe it or not!)  I had trouble coming up with a topic this week, but once I started answering them I enjoyed it.  I hope you enjoy it too!

4. Three people who have recently been a positive influence on your life (outside of your family):

– A guy named Tom who passed on some pretty sound advice from his father a few weeks ago.
Richard Simmons (because he believes in people before they truly believe in themselves, and he has devoted his life to helping people accomplish what feels impossible.)
Leslie McClure (There should be an entire blog post comprised of all of the reasons that she’s been such a positive influence, but most importantly because she’s a good friend who has my best interest at heart.)

5. Three things you to do keep yourself entertained:

– Listen to music…play it and sing it.
– Reading
– I spend way too much time online.  (Um…Facebook, twitter, blogs, CNN.com)

6. Three things you’re attracted to in the opposite sex:

– Confidence and drive without condescension
– Nice  teeth
– I love it when a guy is sincerely attentive and engaged in the conversation when he’s talking to me.

7. Three things you love about yourself:

– I’m smart.
– I have nice teeth and nails.
– I don’t give up.

8. The last three people who text messaged you:

– The Suit (nickname for a friend who looks good in suits.  I haven’t discussed what I’d call him if I mentioned him on my blog so we’ll stick with this.  It’s funny and true anyway.)
– Jade (A friend from the gym who has excellent taste in frozen yogurt.)
– Sarah (My cousin who also happens to be a good friend even though she has Cookie Butter from Trader Joe’s today, and I don’t.)

9. Three things you’re looking forward to this week:

– A trip to the beach with friends (if I can convince them to go. Hehe)
– Seeing friends at school (even though it means I have to go to class. Ha.)
– Making more fun Summer plans with my people…

10. Three wishes specifically for yourself…What are they? (Be selfish, and be honest.)

– There’s a two-bedroom condo in a certain city that I’d like to live in eventually.
– There’s a guy that I kind of like, and I wish he liked me as much as I like him.
– I think I might want a Kindle Fire, but I think I should wish for something bigger.  Maybe I should use two wishes on the aforementioned guy?

11. Three of your favorite quotes:

– “A strangers judgment of me does not define me; it defines them.”
– “To love someone is nothing, to be loved by someone is something, but to be loved by the one you love is everything.”
– “No matter how slow you run, you’re still lapping everyone who’s sitting on the couch.”

12. Three of your biggest fears:

– that no one outside of my family will ever love me just for me…
– that I’ll continue to struggle with my relationship with food as much as I am now…
– that I’ll never feel pretty…

16. Three things that you always have in your bag or close to you if you’re not a purse kind of person.  (The second part of the question is for you, Timmo!)

– iPhone

– Nalgene bottle filled with water (or two Nalgene bottles filled with water)

– Travel-size perfume, Daisy by Marc Jacobs

17. Three types of food that you wouldn’t want to give up.

– Pad Thai

– Shrimp Spring Rolls

– Cupcakes

18. Three things you do to enjoy burning calories:

– The ladder (and circuit training) at the gym

– Swimming

– Riding my bike

19.  Three things you dislike about blogging:

– Trolls…You know, the comments that get sent directly to spam.  It’s mind-blowing (and a little flattering in a screwed up way) to think that the hateful people who leave comments everyday about how awful they think I am could be so completely obsessed with me.  Seriously, how bored and unhappy must they be to come here everyday just to leave mean-spirited comments that are ignored?  But as I said, it’s flattering in a weird way to know that they can’t get enough of me even though that makes them ridiculous and pathetic. Ha..

– I follow several blogs closely (even though I don’t always comment,) and it’s sad to see someone disappear or end their blog for whatever reason.  I’ve met some incredible people through blogging so it can be heart-breaking when they’re no longer part of the blogosphere.

– I’m not a fan of blogger as a platform even though my blog was there originally.  I like to leave my name, e-mail and website, but I prefer not to leave comments through google.  I don’t like the captcha either so often times I’ll read then move on instead of leaving a comment.  That’s why…

20.  Three ways blogging has changed your life:

– It has given me a voice that I’m trying to use to do what’s right for people of all sizes. (I suppose I should update you on what’s happening with Southwest.  I’ve just made a mental note to do that soon.)

– It has helped me keep the 100+ pounds I’ve lost off, and I’m going to stick around while I strive to get to my ultimate goal. When I feel down I can look back at where I started.  I’m reminded of how hard it was and how incredible I felt when I accomplished little goals, and it lifts my spirits and reminds me what I’m worth.

– I’ve made friends who understand my life and struggles because many of them have faced similar struggles and victories.

Now it’s your turn to answer the questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments, and have a happy Monday!

Friend Makin’ Mondays: If Life Were A Movie

It’s Monday again, and I’m back after a busy week with the family in Colorado!  Everyone had a great time, and my niece’s zoo birthday was a huge success!  I’m exhausted, but it was totally worth it.  And I have an entire week to catch up on rest and everything else before flying out again.   Now it’s time for FMM, and this week I’m asking a question that I originally asked in 2009.

If life were a movie, which one would you want to live in?

This is such an easy question for me to answer. I would live in Hairspray! I have watched this movie more than I’ll admit to anyone, and it never gets old. No matter what my mood is when it starts, I feel utter happiness when it’s over.

If you’ve never seen it then you should definitely make it a priority to do so. Just to be clear, I’m referring to the remake from 2007. Tracy weighs more than the average girl, but she has big dreams and ambition to change the world around her. She doesn’t just sit around thinking things should change, she does her part to change them.

And if you know me at all, you know I moved away from everything I knew to make my own world what I want it to be. I’m trying to do my part to change things starting with myself. The biggest and more unfortunate difference is that Link ends up falling for her — not me. (Zac Efron is just so darn cute. hehe)

So I’d live Hairspray because I’d get to play the part of Tracy, and I would love to posses her unwavering confidence in herself and in what is right and wrong. What movie would you live in? Is there a certain character that would help define your life? Or would you reinvent yourself completely?

Now it’s your turn to post the question on your own blog, then come back and share your answers!
