What’s Happening Today

I’ve been doing some pretty interesting things since I arrived in L.A. like eating Pad Thai from the Thai Food truck (thank you my Curvy Nerd friend.)  I’ve also done some jogging in Beverly Hills (yes, it’s as beautiful as it seems on TV.)  But there’s more fun stuff happening today..

The Pad Thai is seriously delicious...

I’m also working out with Richard Simmons again for the first time in a few months, and I’m going to see some friends that I haven’t seen yet since I arrived.

I’ve also decided to send in an audition video/application for a certain weight-loss show that I mentioned on my blog last week.  After reading such positive responses from so many of you, I’ve decided that maybe some really good things could come from it.  I mean, I say it all the time, but I have a long way to go…Why not try?

I’m also excited about meeting up with Gail from Shrinking Sisters who is visting Beverly Hills this afternoon.  She was the first person I met at Fitbloggin’, and I adored her from the moment I met her! She’ll be joining me at Slimmons tonight so look for pictures later!

There’s a lot happening in my world right now, and it’s all good stuff.  Meanwhile, I’m off to enjoy those things so I’ll be back later.  How’s everyone else doing today?

It’s Time

Today has been a good day in most respects. I completed two miles on the elliptical machine before swimming over a mile in the pool, and I’m really proud of myself for swimming like such a champ. 😉 I thought it would take time to work up to a mile, but I surprised myself by swimming a mile a few days ago and a mile and a quarter yesterday. And after today’s workout I feel tired, but I also feel confident and strong.

I’ve been such a dark place lately, but today I’ve managed to stay (mostly) out of it. I ate lunch with my dad before going to the gym, and I did a lot of thinking. This has easily been one of the toughest periods in my adult life, but today I believe I’ll get through it. And while it’s still not quite easy to see a silver lining, I do know that when this period is over I’ll be a better person than I was going in. It’s just time to start moving on…

Speaking of moving on, I’m leaving Oklahoma Saturday. After a short visit with my sister and her family in Colorado, it will be time to get back to the place that I love and start again. Though things will be different when I go back, I am utterly grateful to be going back.

A few things will be the same, and I’m thankful for that too. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at my Weight Watchers meeting on Thursday nights, and I can’t wait to see The Amish Outlaws again. 🙂 I’m also ready to enjoy good sushi and Thai food (though not on the same day, of course.)

Adjusting to my new life may not be simple, but I do think it will be awesome. And I feel so lucky to have supportive friends and family who want the best for me. I know that with the support system I have in place I can do this. I can move forward and rebuild what has been broken.

More About Me…Yes, Really…and H2O Spotlight Photos

Once in a while I like to post random pieces of information about myself, and today is one of those days. Just saying..:)

1) What is your favorite month of the year? It’s hard to choose one month. I love Christmas, but I also love July (because it’s my birthday month.)

2) Do you wear glasses/contacts? I do wear glasses sometimes…usually when I’m reading or if I’m tired.

3) Describe the best vacation you’ve ever taken. I feel lucky to find this hard to answer. I’ve been to some incredible places in the last few years, but my favorite has been Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I also love Aruba, and I’m looking forward to going back in the fall.

4) What is your favorite outdoor activity? Riding my bike…:) Swimming tops the list too. I spent time in the pool over the weekend, and it was glorious..!

5) Ankle socks or crew socks? Ankle socks are the only way to go..

6) List your three favorite movies. Hmmm, I have several favorites..currently I’d say The Notebook, Last Holiday and the Twilight movies..

7) What is your favorite quote? I have many favorites one of which is “A year from now you’ll wish you had started today.” It is so true. My life is dramatically different, and I’m so glad I didn’t wait any longer to get started..

8) How often do you exercise? 5-6 times per week.

9) What are you most attracted to in the opposite sex? Height..I like ’em tall…but also personality and smile and lots of other things.

10) What is your favorite TV show? White Collar. If you don’t watch it, you should. The characters are so clever, and Neal is just amazing. 😉 Brown hair + blue eyes = perfect combo. 😉

11) What do you drink most? Uh, water…;) I had 14 glasses yesterday..

12) PC or Mac? I have both, but I prefer my Macbook. I love all things Apple! I just ordered the new iPhone 4, and I blame Sarah for that. After playing with hers I knew it wouldn’t be long until I had to have one too. 🙂

13) Are you a talker or a texter? I am a talker and a texter. I enjoy all forms of communication.

14) Facebook or Twitter? Again, I like it all, but I suppose I’d choose Facebook.

15) If you had to choose between love or money which one would you choose? “To love someone is nothing..to be loved by someone is something, but to be loved by the one you love is everything.” I’d choose love.

16) Are you a girly girl? Hmm, I think so..yes. I get manicures and pedicures regularly..I’ll actually be doing that later today. Just saying. I also wear dresses, knit, giggle, love to shop, etc. I suppose I have a lot of girly habits. 🙂

17) What day are you most looking forward to this week? Thursday is usually my favorite day, and this week it’s especially exciting. I’ll be at my last WW meeting with friends before missing the next few meetings while I’m out of town. Friday should be pretty awesome too. It’s been too long since I danced the night away with my favorite local band. Hey..two weeks is too long..;) Saturday should be fun too. I’m going to spend the day having fun with people I love in Connecticut. It’s shaping up to be a great weekend. I can’t wait to get started!

18) What are you doing right now? Taking a break from tidying things up – the cleaning lady is coming in the morning, and I try to be sure that all of the dishes are done, etc. Right now, I’m typing my post and chatting with a very special lady in Oklahoma. =)

19) What is your favorite food? Thai is my favorite. I think I’ll be eating it Thursday. Yum..

20) If you could be anyone for a day who would you be? I can’t believe I’m saying this and meaning it, but I’d be myself. There are so many wonderful things in my world now..I couldn’t ask for more.

I love questions like these, and I’d love to read your answers too so let me know if you answer them. 🙂

Now let’s talk about water. I drank 14 glasses yesterday, but I’m not the only one owning the PEWC. Shelli Belly is drinking it up too. You can find her blog at http://www.shellibelly.com!

Tammy is also pretty in pink with her awesome water bottle. 🙂 You can find her at From Fat To Fab. 🙂

I’ve decided that I’m definitely going to take a picture with my pink Tervis Tumbler later today! If you’d like to share a water photo, it’s not too late. Just e-mail us at seanboy105@hotmail.com or shrinkingkenz@gmail.com, and let us know how the water challenge is working for you!

Bottoms up Friends!

A Defining Moment

The numbers on the scale are important during anyone’s weight loss journey. And while I love seeing those numbers go down, there are other defining moments that make me want to keep this life that I’m carving out for myself. Yesterday was the biggest example of that to date.

I spent the entire day playing tour guide- we’re talking noon to midnight – with friends who are visiting from out of town. And at several points during our adventures I realized that I was not tired. No one had to slow down so I could keep up. And I didn’t skip anything I wanted them to see because my feet hurt.

We walked around Times Square, went to the “Top of the Rock” (the top of Rockefeller Center where Saturday Night Live and other NBC shows are filmed – the best view of NYC, in my opinion) and enjoyed a sunset sail on the Hudson River. I even got to drive the boat for a few minutes…Thanks Captain! 🙂

We also managed to enjoy lunch at my favorite deli, dinner at my favorite restaurant and cupcakes from my favorite bakery. Hey…they’re my favorite because they’re the best! 🙂 By the end of the night I was tired, but I was not exhausted. I was not in pain nor did I dread doing it again later this week. I am ready. My body is ready.

(Dinner – Pad See Yew at my favorite Thai restaurant..only 4 WW points per cup.)
(A cupcake from Magnolia Bakery…yum!)

I wish I could convey the difference I feel, but it would be impossible to fully comprehend unless you’ve been there too. I cannot imagine how I’ll feel after my next 100 pounds, but I’m ready to find out.

Life as I knew it has changed, and I have a feeling that it’s going to keep getting better!

On a different note…it has been a year since I started tracking cardio on the side of my blog, and it has helped motivate me to reach my goals. So I’m going to start posting the information once a month (before I delete it from the side bar) so I have a more specific record of my cardio workouts.

It’s really not important to anyone except me, but hey…it’s my blog right? 😉 Thanks for understanding…:)

I had a great weekend filled with friends and fun, but it was not filled with exercise. I didn’t do as much as usual – and not because I didn’t have time. The truth is…I just didn’t feel like it.

I went out dancing with friends Friday night, and I got in around 4am. (What? Isn’t that what 20-somethings in NY are supposed to do on a Friday night?) The following morning afternoon I woke up with intentions of working out, but I didn’t. I chose to lie in bed wondering why I thought it was a good idea to drink vodka and cranberry like it was water the night before. (I don’t really drink much so after a couple I’m done.)

I dozed off again until about 1pm then woke up feeling refreshed so I took a shower and headed to a birthday partybefore I having friends over for dinner. My awesome boyfriend braved the cold weather to grill for us. We enjoyed a healthy dinner then switched gears to karaoke. We sang. We danced. We laughed. The last of my friends left at around 4am (there seems to be a theme here this weekend) so I went to bed. No structured workout Saturday.

Again today, I woke up at the crack of noon and went out with a friend. We tried a new Thai restaurant after reading a review in the NY Times today. Though it wasn’t quite as amazing as my favorite Thai restaurant, it was fantastic. Once we had eaten we spent the afternoon shopping. Shocking, I know. 😉 After that, I spent the evening with my boyfriend and his family before coming home around 10:15pm. I knew I needed to workout today, but I didn’t feel like it. I’m proud to say that I did it anyway. After 50 minutes of cardio, I still don’t feel energized. But I am happy with myself for doing it anyway.

Most says I enjoy working out. But I believe that the days in which I don’t feel like working out are the most important because it’s so easy to make excuses and find justifications to skip those hours that make us healthy.

While I didn’t do as much working out as I normally would on a weekend, I’m excited to have reached my 1,000 minute monthly goal today. And I’m also excited that exercise is part of my lifestyle even on lazy days. I worked out on Friday afternoon then danced the night away, skipped a formal workout yesterday and got back on the ball today.

Now it’s time for a restful night of sleep so I can embrace the day and my workouts with an energetic attitude. I’m ready to make this week a productive one.

What will you do to be productive this week?

A Fun Day

Saturday was an awesome day so I thought I’d share a few pics from my day. I had a GREAT time with friends, and I expect to do the same again later tonight. 🙂 I managed to eat well all day in spite of all of the choices…oh my. 🙂

My friends, Christine and Jenn, celebrated their birthdays with me this year. We all have different birthdays, but they’re not too far apart so we shared this amazing cake with friends after dinner Saturday night. Thai food + cake = awesome.

Jenn and I sailed around the Hudson, and though it was sunny when we left, it rained on us for a few minutes. I actually had to change clothes before dinner because I was drenched. Yikes. It was fun anyway. 😉

Even in the rain, being in the New York Harbor is one of my favorite places to be. 🙂

After dinner, we took Jenn to see Times Square. It’s a really touristy place to go, but she’s a tourist. And I’m not afraid to admit that I’m overwhelmed with happiness every time I go there too.

We ended our “night” at about 5:30 AM, but nor before going to SoHo and the Village. I think I’ll refrain from posting those pics to protect the innocent — at least for now. 😉

Tomorrow we’re going to have a ridiculous and fun day. We’ll spend the afternoon looking at art then end it doing some fun things that I might just blog about later.

A Glimpse of My Fantastic Afternoon…

We sailed on the Hudson River in this 80 ft. sailboat, and we could not have asked for better weather.  It was a beautiful day.

Here’s a small piece of my city:

And we even saw a shark (actually, it was just a boat from Jersey. hehe)

Then we sailed towards the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge (a very cool though less famous bridge) and the Statue of Liberty. Isn’t she pretty? 🙂

Then we finished off our afternoon by eating Thai food at my favorite restaurant ever (in my territory) on the Upper East Side. Great views of the city I love and now call home, good food and great company makes any day a perfect day for me. I’m definitely a happy girl.
